Maximize Your Adsense Earnings Part 2

Rob on May 20, 2008 – 2:30 am - How Adsense Placement Can Boost Your Earnings
A tactic that many people use to increase their adsense earnings is the placement of their ads. Adsense Placement can be vital to increasing your earnings. Here are a few tips that you can use as well.
1. A common place where people put their adsense is in the fold are on their website. The fold is the area on a website that you see without scrolling down. So, when you first load up a website, the area you see is the entire fold. Here is the fold on my blog.
The reason why the fold is such a good place for adsense is because this is the area that everyone sees on your website. If you put your adsense below the fold, then there is a chance your visitors might not even scroll down to see it.
If you have noticed, I put a link ad just underneath my navigation bar on my fold. This ad is nicely blended in and gets a fairly decent amount of clicks. The idea of putting it there came from Ben. I think that this is an area that needs to be considered more often. I get many clicks from that ad and it blends in quite nicely with the rest of the site.
2. The next area that I am going to talk about is the content area on your website. The content area is probably the most revenue generating are to place adsense but is also the most riskiest. The reason for this is because this area is where the majority of your content is.
I find that the inline ad brings in the following pluses:
+ It generates the more revenue.
+ It gets the most relevant ads.
+ It usually fits every theme very well.
However there are also some downfalls to this ad.
- It may bother some of your readers.
- It is rather large.
- It is the most intrusive ad of the bunch.
Overall if you think that your readers won’t be bothered by an inline ad then by all means go for it. If you feel that the inline ad could affect your readership then I would highly recommend you drop it.
3. The comment area underneath your post is another good area that you can generate good adsense earnings from. It is also not that intrusive , so your readers probably won’t mind it that much. I personally find that the banner or rectangle performs the best in this area.
4. The last place that I am going to talk about is the sidebar. The best area for putting adsense is generally near the top. The best as that fits is the links. I found that this ad tends to perform a little bit better then the content ones here. This area doesn’t perform as well as the others but It could work on your site so I recommend you try it out anyways.
I’m not going to mention the footer too much because in general it does not perform all that well at all. If you want, you can try it out a banner but chances are it won’t perform that well as an inline ad or an ad that is in the fold. The reason is simply because this ad is at the bottom of the page and doesn’t get viewed that much.
This is the end of my second post in this series. Check back tomorrow for Part 3.

Maximize Your Adsense Earnings Part 1
Written by
Rob on May 19, 2008 – 4:50 pm - Over the next week or so I am going to be posting about my tips on how to maximize your adsense earnings. Each day will be a new category and will talk about a specific method. Some of things I will talk about are blending, placement, which ads work best, different tactics and so on. This will probably be a 5 part series. If they do well and I get a good response from readers then I may even make it longer. So, here I bring you my first post in maximizing your Adsense earnings!
Blending In Yours Ads to Suit Your Site:
Probably the most basic step in maximizing your adsense earnings is to make your ads blend in with your site. I might also add that this is probably the most easiest and basic way of increasing your adsense earnings. There are however several different ways to blend your Adsense ads into your site and this is where it can start to get a bit confusing.
The most basic and easiest way to blend your ads into your website is to use the default white background and black text like shown below.
Now this is the standard way of blending in your ads to your website and will probably work the best. You have to understand though that every site performs differently, so it may be a wiser choice to even try a more colorful blending option. Here is an example of what I mean.
As you can see this ad stands out but it still blends in well. If you have a website with a grey background, you could put different shads of grey to blend you ad in with your content. This method might work, it might not, it all depends on what your users click.
The last style that I am going to talk about is probably the one that no one ever uses but hey, it’s still worth a try. Some people use ads that are meant to stand out on purpose and look hideous to the eye. In general these ads will not perform on your standard website. For some reason some people are reporting of them doing very well. I personally would never use them but it’s all up to you.
If you are very serious about increasing your adsense earnings and trying to get the very best that you can out of Google Adsense then I would highly recommend you try all 3 of these methods. I guarantee one of them is likely to at least increase your earnings a little bit. Remember, blending is very important, it is the most basic and most used tactic to increase adsense earnings. If you blend you ads then chances are they will perform a lot better then an ad that does not blend.
If you liked this first post then stick around and drop by tomorrow because I will be posting part 2 of my maximizing your adsense series. Part 2 will talk about positioning your ads and where they will perform the best that they truly can.
